This....kiddies.....is something that'l blow your mind. In the desert outside of Alpine, Tx. (home base for a couple of days) is Balmorhea State Park. This is not your normal state park with mountains, forests, historic sites. No, no, no, this is Barton Springs in the middle of west Tex. The pool is at least as large as Barton Springs and 25' to 30' deep in the center. It's crystal clear, has fish piddling around, and the water is in the low 70 degree range. No blue shock when you jump in, thank God. This being a Monday and schools in session, I had the place to myself except for two couples visiting the area. I got them to take a pic of me in the pool just fartin' around. This would be a great place for snorkeling, but it's clear enough, and clean enough to the point a mask is not necessary. In the one picture of the desert, the pool is located in that treed area. How in the hell did it get here? Who knows, but it is a welcome oasis in this corner of Tex.
